Yes, I've been a bit silent.

The silence is due to feeling under the weather this week and being a bit upset about that, as well as focusing on being well this weekend for the journey.

I'm all set with a greatly encouraging, unexpected conversation at Village Cycle in Arlington Heights on a trip to get a bike part. Encouragement comes when you least expect.

Otherwise, the silence is due to me staring down the mountain ahead of me. I've been thinking about this since February and it's now breathing down my neck. It's here. This is it.

This ride means a lot of things to me personally that I can't expect anyone else to care about or understand. This whole thing has had a lot of ups and downs and complications but you all helped me raise $1,000 for a cause I truly feel passionate about and am excited to volunteer for this fall again.

It was hard for my to put this ride out there and shove it in everyone's faces to raise money, while making the assumption that anyone even has the time to listen or care that I'm doing this; as someone said to me, "Everyone has their thing," meaning mine isn't any more special or interesting or important. Not to say that this was meant maliciously, but I took it in stride and tried to raise awareness in a way that wasn't presumptuous. I'm glad that the ride is almost over so I can stop drawing attention to myself!

I'm trying to draw POSITIVE attention to conservation and sustainability. A lot of environmental or social or political movements are very aggressive and make people feel bad about themselves. What I love about Openlands and Treekeepers is that it's a non-aggressive SOLUTION that people can get involved in and educate each other within. I've been an activist since roughly 2007 when I slept in the Soldier Field parking lot for child soldiers in Uganda. However, I've struggled with tactics to save the environment and I've found that positive education and hands-on, rewarding programs are one good way that I can feel decent about shouting from the rooftops and annoying you all with.

I've written really poor sentences with poor grammar and I think I'm going to just go get ready now...

THANK YOU ALL. Sorry for the silence. If you were offended.
