Lake County Forest Preserves, Prairie Wolf Wetland, Chicago River North Branch

Prior to enjoying some Fourth of July fireworks from the highest point in the suburbs (can anyone name this location?) where we could see all the way to the Chicago skyline, we explored a portion of the Lake County Forest Preserve Trails along the North Branch of the Chicago River.

A deer crossed our path at one point and we enjoyed the variety of birds at the Prairie Wolf 20-acre wetland. Sadly we had to navigate around an adjacent parking lot being covered in toxic seal-coating which runs right off into the wetlands and Chicago river.

Of course I didn't take any photographs for you! Shame, shame. The weather was absolutely perfect this holiday, wasn't it?

Actually, I do have some photos of the nearby area! They're just not part of the LC Forest Preserve.
