At lunch on Friday at work I noticed a tree keeping company setting up to take down some dead trees near a path where they could be dangerous. I was excited because one of the units in my 8-week arborist course was actually the removal of trees! This is not always a negative thing, unfortunately part of the care of trees is that they die and decay for various reasons, and in an urban or residential area they need to be removed for the safety of people, where in the forest they could just fall and decay on their own.
There are even competitions for people who climb and remove or even just care for trees without removing them completely. I got to watch some of the process right outside my work, and it was fun to see my coworkers fascinated by the process as well!
Please donate to Openlands who educate people about the importance of caring for trees and natural spaces.
See the climber on the top left? There's one kind of hidden by the tree on the right across the path.
